SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol employed to connect to a server and conduct various tasks using a command line. The protocol is employed by many expert users, due to the fact that the information transmitted over it is encrypted, so it can't be intercepted on the way by a third party. SSH access could be employed for a lot of things based on the type of Internet hosting account. With a shared hosting account, for example, SSH is one of several ways to import/export a database or to upload a file when the hosting server allows for it. If you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH could be used for virtually everything - you can install software or restart specific services such as the web server or the database server which run on the machine. SSH is used mostly with UNIX-like Systems, but there are clients which enable you to use the protocol if your laptop or computer is working with a different Operating System too. The connection is created on TCP port 22 by default and the remote hosting server always listens for incoming connections on that port even though a lot of providers change it for security reasons.
SSH Telnet in Cloud Website Hosting
SSH access may be allowed with a mouse click through the Hepsia Control Panel if the cloud website hosting plan which you have selected comes with this function by default. If not, you may add it from the Add Services/Upgrades section of your CP and enable it immediately. You'll find all the details that you need inside the SSH section of the CP - the host, the port number and the username that you need to use, alongside comprehensive Help articles where we have listed all of the commands that you can use inside the account and examples of the syntax that you have to use. The SSH password could be changed from the same section at any time with several mouse clicks. So long as SSH access is enabled, you shall also be able to connect safely and securely via an FTP client too. With an SFTP connection, all of the files that you upload will go through an encrypted connection.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
All our semi-dedicated server accounts provide the possibility to access and handle them through SSH. If the package deal you have chosen comes with this function by default, you simply need to enable the SSH access feature using the corresponding section of the Hepsia CP. If the feature is listed as an optional upgrade, you are able to quickly add it using the Add Services/Upgrades link in the Hepsia CP and it shall be available within a minute. We have various help articles and video lessons regarding the use of SSH commands to handle your account and an entire list of the commands you can execute together with several examples to give you a better perception of what you could do. If SSH is active, you'll also be able to set up an SFTP connection to the account and to upload files safely and securely via any FTP app that supports the feature.
